And my Dad decided that it was time that D got his bike!! Derek loved it but I think Isaac loved it even more!! And even more than Isaac... Kurtis loved it!!

This is the fence from which the other shooter may have fired. Written on the back of this fence were many clues as to what really happened. Infact one note said "I am waiting for Obama to PROVE that he did not shoot JFK". I wish the author would have left his name.

While in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving we went to the lake!!

That is one thing Kurtis has in common with Atlas, they both lift big rocks.

So while in Denver I went on a tour of the Hammonds Candie Factory! They make all the candy by hand!! It was really amazing to watch them pull the candy and make lollipops and candy canes! I could not resist getting the kids a lollipop and they loved it!!

Saturday night I put the kiddos to bed and with a sigh I cuddled up to husband for some one on one time!! Around midnight Isaac started coughing and could not stop. Strange, I thought because he had had a cold about 10 days earlier and the doctor check him out and said he was fine except a minor ear infection, which we treated with antibiotics. So after about 30 mins of coughing and crying I go in a get the little guy! I gave him a drink, checked his temp and took him in, hoping he would just go to bed with me. But when I got into bed he squirmed and got out and started running around like he was ready to play. I told him no way buddy if you don't want to sleep with me, back to bed. I put him back to bed and he feel asleep. Around 5 am he woke up again. I go in to check on him because he was coughing and crying and he has been known to cough so hard that he throws-up, so I wanted to make sure that had not happened. I picked him up and he was GASPING for breath! I told Kurtis we had to go to the ER now!! He got up dressed Derek and we were in the car! I called my parents on the way and they started out to come and help with Derek. Yes, my parents get the Grandparents of the Year Award for sure!!
We arrived at the ER and lucky there was no one else there. They asked me to fill out paper work and of course I freak out and tell them not until they put Isaac on O2, I knew that his level would be dangerously low. And I was right, pulse 185, O2 82. They start him on O2 and albuterol and steroids. They then take a chest x-ray and start a central line. The ER doctors were very concerned because while he was crying but he had no tear and was not fighting them at all. The ER doctor then tells me that he need to be admitted but that they wanted to transfer him to the UNM Children's hospital. And because the central line was in and he need to be on O2 we would need to be transferred in an ambulance. At this point Derek is getting really concerned and upset. He kept telling the doctors that he was Isaac's "big brother" and "don't do that, you make him cry" or "leave him alone, he don't feel good." So as they load Isaac and I into the ambulance Kurtis takes Derek home for a break and something to eat.
When we arrive at UNM we are taken to the pediatric unit. The new doctor comes in and checks Isaac out she said she was really concerned about his not producing tears and wants to run more tests. So they take more blood and swab his nose. They get his history, I told them in Aug he had RSV and in Sep he had phenomena. They tell me that they think he has RSV again or that maybe he has Asthma. I ask how long they think we will be in the hospital and the doctor tells she would guess a minimum or 5 DAYS!! They wont send him home as long as he is on O2 and last time he has RSV he was on O2 for 7 days! I am thinking, What!?!? But so thankful my parents are on their way to take care of Derek.
The respiratory doctor comes in and tells me that he is getting worse, they need to keep increasing his O2 to keep his saturation at an acceptable level. And he is getting 8 puffs of albuterol every 2 hours (which is a lot). I know deep down in my heart that he is going to be okay but I could not help but get a little emotional, I hate seeing my babies in pain.
Kurtis and Derek come back to hospital to see Isaac, and my parents arrive shortly after. Kurtis and my Dad give Isaac a blessing around 6pm. I am so thankful for Kurtis and they fact that he is worthy to hold the Priesthood and bless our family with that power. My parents leave the hospital with Derek, and boy was he excited.
Kurtis and I spend the night with Isaac. The doctor tells me about 8pm that Isaac lungs are sounding better and that they are going to try to reduce the O2 back down. Every 2 hours that night they came in and reduced the O2 until the next morning and he was only on 1/2 a liter. The team of doctors come in to look at him and they are amazed that he was doing so much better. The test result were back and he tested negative for RSV and 8 other viruses. The blood work showed no signs of infection but the x-ray showed sever bronchiolitis. We see a pulmonary doctor and he tells us that Isaac has asthma and that his trigger is a cold or virus. Confused I ask, "so everything he gets a cold we will have to come the ER?" They said most likely. Bummer, I think. But they gave us a rescue plan and a ton of medication. He now is on a daily steroid inhaler and he has a rescue inhaler and oral steroids. But they said it make take a while to figure out what works best for Isaac and because he is so young he can not tells what he needs and help speed up the process.
But all that day Isaac kept getting better and better. The doctor team came back in at 12 and asked if we would want to go home that day or stay another day. I told them we would want to go asap. I was so happy that he was doing better and I know it was form the blessing!
I am also so glad to now know what is wrong with Isaac and hopefully be better prepared in the future. We go back to the doctor on Friday! But Isaac is going great at home and is becoming a pro with his inhaler.
So we only stayed in the hospital 2 days!! And I told Isaac in the ambulance that I hope this was a once in a life time experience for him.
Sorry I did not take the camera to the hospital, so no pictures of Isaac.

Trunk or Treat

Balloon Fiesta

Isaac is so happy to have Derek on his hands and knees. We are so proud of him. We work hard to teach are kids the importance of subjugating every foe at any expense.

Darwinism at its best. In less than two years Kurtis has already adapted to the New Mexican habitat. Here we can see that he blends in with the landscape perfectly, if he were naked and hairy he would be virtually invisible! I am grateful for this genetic advantage it increase my chances of getting pregnant.

Derek is about the size of the average 17th century cannon muzzle.

Isaac is not actually standing at an angle, it is just an optical illusion created by the camera angle.

It is very important to us that we stay together as a family that is why Kurtis and Derek are close enough together that they fit in a single shot.
Derek feels the agony of those who once resided in these spacious halls.

Kurtis told me that he was on a diet and did not want cake this year for his birthday!! Well the kids insisted on cake and so came the compromise. Tuesday
6:00 AM : Isaac wakes up happy and ready for the day!
8:00 AM : Isaac has a bit of a runny nose and I notice a tooth about to break through (I need to wipe it once every hour, no big deal). My kiddos always get a runny nose with a new tooth!
10:00 AM Friends over to play.
1:00 PM Isaac is starting to cough.
5:00 PM Kurtis comes home and plays with the kids.
8:00 PM Isaac is coughing hard, so hard that he threw up his dinner.
9:00 PM Isaac goes to bed.
Wednesday
1:00 AM Isaac wakes up crying. I go to check on him and he is breathing like he was running a marathon!

I knew when I got Isaac out of bed that he had RSV! It went around the school I taught at so I had seen it before. It is super aggressive and in a matter of hours Isaac could not breath! When we got to the doctor Isaac's pulse was 188 and O2 level only 85 (should be 95 or higher for a healthy child). Once on O2 Isaac's level was up to 95! Yea that was good news because we did not have to be admit to the hospital and we could go home with the oxygen therapy! We went back to the doctor on Friday and Isaac's O2 was up to 88 on his own! So better but not good enough to be off O2!! We go back tomorrow and we will find out if we need another week of O2!! Isaac is such a trooper and he really acts like he feels fine except he can't breath!

Ward Camp Out

The ward camp out was a lot of fun! We split dinner with a couple of other families and it was delicious!! I had never made anything in a dutch oven before but it was really good!

But the kids favorite part of camping in the tent and the air mattress! It is like a trampoline!

My Dad loves ice cream as much as I do, but I only give it to the boys on occasion. While in Oklahoma, the boy had ice cream whenever they asked for it (perk of being a grandparent)!! And man did they put on a few pounds!! But they loved it.

While in Utah for Kurtis' brothers wedding we stayed with Kurtis' Grandparents! Derek loved it because his Great Grandpa (Derek calls him Grand-papa) has a tractor!! This kid could not get enough of it!! In one of the pictures I asked him to smile and he told me, "No mom I am working, can't smile." Little boys are the best!!

Best Ice Cream EVER

Cheesecake Ice Cream
~ adapted from David Lebovitz, The Perfect Scoop
8 ounces cream cheese
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup light cream
2/3 cup granulated sugar
Zest of 1 lemon
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch sea salt

Place all ingredients in food processor or blender and process until smooth, pulsing several times. Pour into container, seal tightly, and refrigerate until well chilled.

When ice cream base is chilled, process in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions. Place finished ice cream in a freezer-safe container with a tight-fitting lid and freeze immediately. Let ripen in freezer for at least 3 hours before serving, for best results.

For a really cheesecakey experience, try topping this with a spoonful of berry compote and a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.

So we were planning on hiking but when we got to the mountain we found out that it was closed because of sever fire danger... so we drove up to Santa Fe instead and went to the Loretto Chapel. It is the chapel with the stair case that make two complete 365 degree turns with no center support or wall support and is believed to be built by and angel.

While Nathan and Amber were here we got to go to the park. The boys loved it!

We loved having them come and visit!! And the boys miss having all of the extra attention!!

Here in NM we have a ton of lizards. And Kurtis has always been able to catch wild animals (when we were dating he would catch birds). So this is not the first lizard he has captured since living here but it was the biggest, so I pulled out the camera (no lizards were harmed in the taking of these photos). ;)

This year Kurtis went all out for my birthday!! He made a strawberry cake with cool whip and angle food cake!! And it was delicious!!

Oh Costco

So our last jogging stroller was stolen, so we have been looking to get a new one and we found this guy at Costco for less the 150 dollars!! It also converts into a bike trailer!! We love it!

Father and Sons Camp Out

So while Kurtis and Derek were "off roading" in his echo... they got stuck and you can see that his back tire is not on the ground... I am glad that he got Derek out of the car while he got it unstuck.

Derek and Miles were loving the great outdoors!! Boys will be boys!!

I must admit that I was really really nervous to let these boys go off on an adventure with out me... but they made it home safe and I am sure that I did not get all of the details and I am okay with that.

I know that Derek's sun hat is not the most stylish thing in the world but for us fair skinned people, NM is way too sunny. We must stay covered!

Mozzarella Sticks

SOOO I made these tonight and yes they are super yummy and Kurtis' new favorite food! And trust me, you must use the panko bread crumbs. I got them at Trader Joe's but I think I have seen them at Sunflower Market as well!!

16 pieces String Cheese, Removed From Wrappers
½ cups All-purpose Flour
2 whole Eggs
3 Tablespoons Milk
1 Tablespoon Dried Parsley Flakes
Canola Oil, For Frying
Marinara Sauce, For Dipping
2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs

Preparation Instructions

Slice string cheese pieces in half, for a total of 32 pieces.

Place flour in a small bowl.

In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk.

In another separate bowl, combine panko bread crumbs with parsley flakes.

TO ASSEMBLE: One by one, roll mozzarella sticks in flour, then dunk in egg/milk mixture, then place in panko crumbs. Use your hand to sweep crumbs all over the mozzarella stick. Gently remove and place on a tray or cookie sheet. Repeat until all mozzarella sticks are coated.

***Place tray in freezer for 20 to 30 minutes to flash freeze.***

TO COOK: Heat 1 1/2 inches canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When hot, add mozzarella sticks 8 at a time. Watch closely and turn over to evenly brown, cooking less than 2 minutes. Do not allow cheese to bubble and leak.

Remove to a paper towel-lined plate.

Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce.

Isaac is a Mama's boy!! OH, how sweet it is to loved so much!! But I think that it hurts Kurtis' feelings sometimes. Like on Sunday, Isaac woke up from his nap and was ready for a cuddle!! He gave me the best loves and when Kurtis wanted in on the action... Isaac was not happy!! Isaac loves his mommy the most! But I know that it wont be long before Dad is more fun than Mom and the new favorite. And so I am living it up while I can!! I love this cuddly guy. :)

So this year for Easter I made everyone basket liners and I think they turned out super cute!! I was hoping to get the boys names embroidered on them but I ran out of time!! But next year they will be ready! Also, my amazing friend Kirsten has a blog http://embellishgoods.blogspot.com/ she makes printables for every holiday and more!! Check it out! So I printed the footprints and the clue cards to make an Easter scavenger hunt (Thanks Kirsten)!! It was some much fun! The boys loved the bunny tracks!! I told Derek that he needed to follow the bunny tracks and he looked at me and said, "Ohh, choo choo train tracks! Where is the train." I have to say that this was a definite success! At church we has a speical conference and Elder Cook spoke! It was amazing! Can not wait for Easter next year!!

Pre-Easter

The Zoo and Botanical Gardens

I just wanted to public tell my wonderful husband how proud I am of him!! Kurtis defended his thesis last week and of course he passed!! Anyways, in addition to this wonderful news Kurtis is also being hired on as a staff member at Sandia National Laboratories, where he gets to be a "mad scientist". Anyways, I am grateful for all of his hard work and proud of all of his accomplishments!! YOU DID!! I LOVE YOU!!

So while in Utah Derek decided that he no longer needed a nap... this coincided with us taking the Binky away but maybe that is just a coincidence. So Derek now goes to bed at 7 pm and sleeps until almost 8 am. I am not really complaining because I love having time just Kurtis and I at night but I am apologizing for my disheveled state. When Derek and Isaac would nap I would do things like, clean the house and make dinner, but more importantly I would paint my toes and pluck my eyebrows. So when you see me with bushy eyes and unpolished toes just know that I am sorry, grooming has had to take a backseat to active 2yr old!!

Stop and Breath

I am not a patient person! This is one reason pregnancy is such a trial for me. But seriously I think that I am learning patients this year and it has not been that easy! I just tell myself stop and breath. We are trying to sell our home in Utah without much success and so while we wait we are living in an apartment! Lets just say once you have owned your own home, going back to an apartment is a real disappointment!! Especially with two children. Last night at 7pm I hear a knock at the door and who is it? The neighbor from below us! She was upset because she could hear Derek running back and forth in the living room. I am not a big confrontational person (if I were I would have told her that I can hear her music at 2am but I didn't) so I told her I was sorry and would try and get him to be quite!! She also said that she can hear us when we get up in the morning and that it is too early and we need to be quite. My kids go to bed at 7pm and get up at 6:30 to 7am. I think that is reasonable. So today I have been trying to get Derek not to run. And it is impossible!! So I guess the people below us will just have to hate us!! Two year old's and apartments don't mix!! Anyways sorry for being a baby but I really miss having a home... I pray the house will sell so we can move! BTW one thing I hate about ABQ EVERYONE SMOKES!! Another reason I want to be in a home, so I don't have to smell it!!
